This guide walks you through connecting your AI assistant to Viio using the MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Once connected, you can interact with your Viio data using natural language through your preferred AI client.

Prerequisites

  • An active Viio account

  • An MCP-compatible AI client (e.g., Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, or other MCP clients)

Connection Details

Setting

Value

Name

Viio MCP (or any name you prefer)

Remote MCP Server URL

https://mcp.viio.io/

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Add a Custom Connector

  1. Open your MCP client application

  2. Navigate to the connectors or integrations settings

  3. Click Add custom connector/app

  4. Fill in the required fields:

    • Name: Enter a name for the connector (e.g., "Viio MCP")

    • Remote MCP server URL: Enter https://mcp.viio.io/

  5. Click Add to save the connector

Step 2: Connect to Viio

  1. After adding the connector, you will see it listed with a "Disconnected" status

  2. Click the Connect button next to your Viio MCP connector

  3. A new window will open to begin the authorization process

Step 3: Authorize Access

  1. You will see a consent screen asking if you want to allow the AI client to access your Viio account

  2. Review the access request carefully

  3. Click Approve to grant access, or Deny to cancel the connection

Note: If you click Deny, the connection will not be established and you will need to start the process again if you change your mind.

Step 4: Sign In to Viio

  1. After approving access, you will be redirected to the Viio sign-in page

  2. Choose your preferred sign-in method:

    • Sign in with Google

    • Sign in with Microsoft

  3. Complete the authentication process with your chosen provider

Don't have a Viio account? Click "Book a demo here" on the sign-in page to get started.

Step 5: Start Using Viio MCP

Once authentication is complete, you will be automatically redirected back to your MCP client. The connector status will change to "Connected" and you can begin using Viio through your AI assistant.

Available Tools

After connecting, your AI assistant will have access to a variety of read-only tools to help you analyze and understand your SaaS portfolio. Examples include:

  • Get Most Expensive Applications - View your highest-cost applications

  • Get Low Adoption Apps - Discover applications with low usage

  • Get Leavers with Licenses - Identify departed employees with active licenses

  • Get Overlapping Apps - Find applications with overlapping functionality

You can view the complete list of available tools in your MCP client's connector settings after connecting.

Managing Tool Permissions

Your MCP client allows you to control how and when each tool can be used:

  1. Navigate to your Viio MCP connector settings

  2. Under Tool permissions, you'll see all available tools listed

  3. For each tool, you can choose:

    • Always allow - The tool can be used without asking for permission each time

    • Ask each time - You'll be prompted before the tool is used

    • Never allow - The tool will not be available for use

All Viio MCP tools are read-only, meaning they can only retrieve and display information from your Viio account. They cannot modify any data.

Example Queries

Once connected, you can ask your AI assistant questions like:

  • "What are my most expensive SaaS applications?"

  • "Show me applications with low adoption rates"

  • "Which employees who have left still have active licenses?"

  • "What licenses could I potentially downgrade?"

  • "Are there any overlapping applications in my portfolio?"

  • "Which renewals are coming up where I have negotiation leverage?"

Disconnecting

To disconnect the Viio MCP connector:

  1. Navigate to your connector settings

  2. Find the Viio MCP connector

  3. Click Uninstall or the disconnect option

  4. Confirm the disconnection

You can reconnect at any time by following the setup steps again.
