Prerequisites
To set up the integration, you’ll need:
Owner or Admin access to your Bitwarden organisation
Teams or Enterprise plan (Public API is not available on free/families plans)
An Organisation API key (Client ID + Client Secret)
Setup
Generate your Bitwarden Organisation API key:
Log in to the https://vault.bitwarden.com/
Go to Organisation > Settings > Organisation info
Scroll to API Key > View API Key (may require master password)
Copy both Client ID and Client Secret
Configure in Viio:
Go to Integrations > Bitwarden > Connect
Enter Client ID and Client Secret
Click Continue, add a name, and Save
Initial sync begins automatically — members, licenses, and events will be available after first sync.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Issue | How to resolve |
Authentication error | Verify Client ID and Client Secret are from an Organisation API key (not personal), with no extra spaces |
Plan requirement | Teams or Enterprise plan required for API access |
Missing users | Confirm they've been invited to and accepted the correct organisation |
Roles | Viio maps Owner, Admin, Manager, User, and Custom roles |
Events | Organisation audit log entries (logins, item changes, member management). Historical events before connection are not backfilled |
Rate limiting | Auto-retries up to 3 times with exponential backoff on 429 responses |
